About the Australian Cord Blood Foundation
The Australian Cord Blood Foundation was formed on 5th February 1998 for the purpose of raising money to support the Sydney Cord Blood Bank. The sole trustee of the Australian Cord Blood Foundation is Australian Cord Blood Foundation Limited, a public company limited by guarantee.
Cord Blood is the blood that remains in the placenta and in the attached umbilical cord following childbirth. Cord blood is rich in stems cells. It is used for transplantation as an alternative to bone marrow, and as a curative treatment for many hematopoietic and genetic disorders.
The Australian Cord Blood Foundation is dedicated to the support of the Sydney Cord Blood Bank in its quest to provide life saving transplantation of blood stem cells for the treatment of leukaemia and other life threatening conditions of children as well as adults.
